Nordic Impact supported the space technology company ICEYE in advancing its climate work

ICEYE, a pioneer in space technology, strengthened its sustainability efforts by utilizing Nordic Impact’s ESG platform. The main goal of the collaboration was a comprehensive greenhouse gas emissions calculation, carried out in accordance with the GHG Protocol, covering both direct and indirect emissions (Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 emissions).
The ESG platform provided ICEYE with a structure and tool for calculating emissions, enabling the systematic identification and quantification of emission sources throughout the organization and supply chain. In addition to the calculation, Nordic Impact advised ICEYE on modeling emission reduction scenarios and planning concrete reduction measures.
As a result of the collaboration, ICEYE gained a clear, data-driven overview of its climate impact, as well as practical tools for strategic decision-making and the implementation of effective emission reduction measures.
“Nordic Impact’s expertise helped us understand the climate impact of our operations and value chain, as well as ways to manage it, taking into account the specific characteristics of the space industry. This provides a good foundation for developing our climate work and building sustainable growth“, says Milla Uusi-Pietilä, Head of Sustainability at ICEYE.
ICEYE is a space company founded in 2014 that operates the world’s largest constellation of SAR radar satellites. The company’s satellites enable Earth observation around the clock and in all weather conditions. The data collected is used, for example, to monitor natural disasters such as floods and forest fires, in rescue operations, and to strengthen national security. The company has over 700 employees and offices in nine countries. Read more about ICEYE’s responsibility work at https://www.iceye.com/company/sustainability.
