During 2024, Cinia deployed Nordic Impact’s SaaS-based ESG platform to calculate greenhouse gas emissions. Cinia is a Finnish expert in the cybersecurity of digital operating environments and a specialist in critical and high-reliability connections and software. Its services include network, software, cloud and cybersecurity solutions. Cinia’s turnover is approximately EUR 90 million, and it employs 450 experts.

The promotion of sustainable business is part of Cinia’s core operations, and the company has made rapid progress to meet the requirements of sustainability reporting in the future and to actively participate in combatting climate change. The industry’s climate impacts mainly arise from the manufacture of networks, data centres and smart devices, as well as electricity consumption. Cinia does not manufacture devices itself, but integrates and provides them as part of its projects. For this reason, the majority of emissions are generated outside Cinia’s own operations, in the value chain. At the same time, the solutions offered by the industry can contribute to reducing emissions. Cinia’s goal is to reduce emissions in both its value chain and its own operations.

Cinia adopted Nordic Impact’s ESG platform to provide a clear baseline and to effectively and timely monitor the results of the measures. The partners had already collaborated in Scope emissions calculation, which was complemented for Scope 3 calculation during 2024. “The collection of data using Excel sheets is inefficient, whereas the platform provides us with an easy-to-use and efficient way to calculate and report our greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the requirements of the EU Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the ESRS standard. We are required to publish a sustainability report starting from the financial year 2025, and we are developing our capabilities towards this,” says Cinia’s Sustainability Controller Timo Syväniemi and adds: “The reliability and availability of data will continue to be important features of the service, as we are already seeing an increase in customer requests for information.”

Cinia uses the ESG service to calculate emissions, but it will also need to calculate key figures for social responsibility and governance in the future. “For us, the greatest value is the support we have received from Nordic Impact’s expert staff for promoting and reporting on sustainable development. The further development of the platform is clearly under way, and the latest version includes important features such as the increased transparency of emission factors. Next, we would like to have a chat feature, which is a more pleasant communication channel than emails,” Timo says.
